Copper Foil

Copper foil is one of the most important parts to make your stained glass vision become reality. When selecting your foil, you will want to consider your finish patina. Unless you are using clear glass in the project, copper back is perfectly fine. When using clear glass, you will want to select a backing that matches the patina that you will finish your project. 

Black Patina, use black back foil on clear glass.
Solder left natural, use silver back foil on clear glass.
Copper patina, use the regular copper foil on all the pieces including the clear glass.

Here are a couple of pro tips.

Some artists choose to use only black back foil, well you can, but if you follow the rules above, you can save some money on your foil by using copper foil without a colored back.

Always grind your glass, wash it well, and let it dry good before you commence to foiling your pieces. Always burnish the foil on all 3 sides of where it is applied to your project.

Foil will tarnish when exposed to air after some time, use of quality flux will help remove the discoloration before soldering.
